CARDBOARD cutouts of absent fans waved back and forth in the freezing stands at Abbey Stadium as Mark Bonner’s Cambridge United extended their lead at the top of the League Two table on Saturday, with a firm win against mid-table Crawley Town.
The CU’s seemed in good spirits despite a three-or-so-hour journey up to Salford City earlier in the week that ended up postponed due to a frozen pitch just moments before the match was due to begin Gary Neville did, however, offer to compensate the lads’ fares.
The victory meant United ended January unbeaten. ....

SIMON PARKER'S VERDICT: Bantams carry on where they left off | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

CAMBRIDGE boss Mark Bonner will celebrate one year in the job on Friday.
Initially promoted as a temporary measure to fill the hot-seat after Colin Calderwood’s sacking, the former academy manager was not expected to be in charge for long as the club assessed their next step.
But Bonner brought about an immediate turnaround in interim charge, winning his first four games including one against Stuart McCall’s City, and made up their minds for them.
He became one of the youngest bosses in the EFL and is now leading the U’s on a promotion charge.
Could this be the blueprint that the Bantams might yet follow? ....

Men's Football Cambridge take action over booing fans

CAMBRIDGE UNITED have announced a range of sanctions against supporters who booed when players took a knee prior to their match against Colchester this month.
Coach Mark Bonner said a minority of fans had “embarrassed” themselves, and the League Two club vowed to investigate.

“We’re right to back that message. We’ve clearly got more work to do
because that behaviour’s unacceptable. We don’t want the light shone on our club for those reasons. I want to condemn that behaviour.” ....

How Vicar of Dibley taking knee sparked criticism
Furious Vicar of Dibley fans switched off on Monday as they slammed the lecturing BBC for using comedy to promote political causes over a scene where Dawn French takes the knee for Black Lives Matter.
