Myanmar: Military detains Japanese journalist
The Myanmar military detained Japanese freelance journalist, Yuki Kitazumi in Yangon on April 18 for allegedly disseminating ‘fake news’. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) condemn the continued threat to journalists across Myanmar and calls for the immediate release of all detained journalists.

Yuki Kitazumi, a freelance journalist and owner of Yangon Media Professionals, a media production company, was arrested at his home in Yangon and transferred to Insein prison overnight.Myanmar state television stations reported, Kitazumi was charged with spreading ‘fake news’ under article 505(A) of the Penal Code. ....

Women, from all walks of life in India, have signed a statement for the release of women rights defender and journalist Thin Thin Aung along with other “illegally detained pro-democracy activists”. The statement released today reads:
We, women human rights and democracy advocates, call for the Myanmar military coup council to immediately release woman rights defender and journalist Thin Thin Aung and other illegally detained pro-democracy activists. ‘
We appeal to the government, the international community, transnational business stakeholders and the morally conscious public to put pressure on the Myanmar military to end the brutal violence against protesters, restore peoples’ democratic will, restore the rule of law, and restore people’s rights including the right to freedom of expression and assembly. ....

New Delhi: Several prominent women rights advocates from all walks of life in India have released a statement urging the Myanmar military to release journalist and activist Thin Thin Aung and other illegally detained pro-democracy protesters.
In an appeal, both to the military which assumed power since the coup and to the international community including transnational business stakeholders, the activists have urged that the brutal violence perpetrated on protesters in Myanmar end and people’s rights be restored. ....
