Twelve public hospitals in the capital have misused and embezzled funds allocated by the government for quarantine expenses during the coronavirus pandemic.
The huge anomalies and financial losses have been found in quarantine expenses for health workers, including doctors, during a special audit.
The health and family welfare directorate conducted the special audit from September 9 to October 12, 2020 on quarantine expenses during the pandemic from July 2019 to June 2020 in 12 public hospitals in the capital.
The audit delegation has identified 63 types of irregularities and financial losses, an audit report said. ....

A consignment of five million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca ‘Covishield’ vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) will arrive from India today.
This will be the first consignment of the 30 million doses of ‘Covishield’ purchased from India. Bangladesh would get the vaccines in six phases as every consignment will carry 5 million vaccine doses per month.   
Talking to reporters on Sunday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said 50 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine, purchased from India s Serum Institute, will reach Dhaka on Monday.
“The Indian government already has given us 20 lakh vaccines as a gift. As per the agreement, another 50 lakh vaccines will arrive in the country tomorrow. The government has already taken all preparations to store the 70 lakh vaccines,” he said on Sunday. ....

The government has also allowed antibody test to determine whether someone has developed antibodies against the virus.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the country s vaccination programme against the coronavirus through video conferencing on January 27.
Md Abdul Mannan, secretary of health services division of the health and family welfare ministry disclosed the information while talking to reporters during a visit at Kidney Hospital in the capital on Saturday morning. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the vaccination programme virtually on January 27. A nurse will receive the vaccine first on the day at Kurmitola General Hospital,” he said. 
The premier is likely to interact with health workers virtually on the day after launch of the programme, sources said. ....
