A public interest litigation has been filed before the Bombay High Court challenging a Maharashtra government notification dated January 26 to provide Kunbi certificates to Marathas in Maharashtra.
The OBC Welfare Foundation (OWF) has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court against the draft notification issued by the Maharashtra government, which facilitates Kunbi caste quotas under the OBC category for the Marathas. The PIL argues that the state government lacks the authority to define Maratha relatives eligible for reservation by identifying them as Kunbis. The petition expresses the concerns of OBC communities, fearing that the Maratha community is securing reservations through the "backdoor" with government assistance.
