Professor of Chemistry Kumar Sinniah is the 2021 recipient of the Presidential Award for Exemplary Teaching. As the highest teaching honor at Calvin University, the award was established in 1993 by a donor to honor a former Calvin trustee, George Tinholt. Sinniah joined Calvin’s chemistry faculty in 1995 and his courses and research projects have been raved about by students ever since. While Sinniah has taken time away from campus to serve as a visiting professor at institutions such as the University of Michigan, University of Maryland, and University of Cambridge, his heart has always brought him back to his students at Calvin. ....
Grand Rapids Business Journal Calvin University selected Noah Toly to become its next provost. He will assume his new position on July 1, replacing Cheryl Brandsen, who will be retiring after serving as provost since 2014. Toly will be formally installed as provost during the university’s fall convocation ceremony in late August. “We are delighted to welcome Noah to Calvin,” said Calvin President Michael Le Roy, who appointed Toly following the search committee’s recommendation. “He is an accomplished academic, a deeply committed Christian and is enthusiastic about the Calvin community and the reformed faith. His teaching, scholarship and community engagement represent his commitment to seeking understanding and promoting the flourishing of all people, which is what we are aspiring to as well at Calvin to be a trusted partner.” ....
Calvin University selects Noah Toly as provost Calvin University selects Noah Toly as provost Calvin University’s provost search committee has recommended Noah Toly as the university’s next provost. Toly currently serves at Wheaton College as executive director of the Center for Urban Engagement, chair of urban studies, and professor of urban studies and politics & international relations. Calvin conducted a national search for the provost position, and Toly’s name rose to the top of a highly qualified and diverse pool of candidates. President Michael Le Roy and professor of chemistry and biochemistry Kumar Sinniah co-chaired the 13-member search committee which included representatives from the university’s faculty and administration. ....
