“From 12 noon to 4 p.m., farmers will stop trains by going to the nearest railway station. They will welcome the trains with flower garlands and then communicate with passengers. They will also provide water, milk and tea to the passengers,” said Bharatiya Kisan Union-Tikait leader Rakesh Tikait, on the eve of the protest. He appealed to the farmers to remain peaceful and to commuters to take time to listen to the farmers’ demands.
“A successful rail roko will force the government to break the deadlock,” said Kul Hind Kisan Sabha leader Baldev Singh Nihalgarh.
A three-hour chakka jam or road blockade on February 6 saw the most extensive response in Punjab and Haryana, where the agitation has been most widespread and long-lasting. A number of other States saw some large gatherings in scattered locations but failed to have mass impact. ....

Farm unions to meet on invite for talks, say govt's letter 'time-pass' | India News,The Indian Express

“The letter indicates that the government does not want to call a meeting. It is just going through a formality. The government is not serious about holding the next round of talks, otherwise it could have specified the time and venue as it had done on earlier occasions,” said Shiv Kumar Kakka, national president, Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh.
Kakka said the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of 40 protesting unions, will decide on a response.
Jagmohan Singh Patiala, general secretary, Bharti Kisan Union Ekta (Dakaunda), said there was “no need for such a long letter”. “We had already clarified that we will only settle for a repeal of the three laws and the legalisation of MSP for all crops. The Government should focus on these demands instead of beating around the bush. We will decide on the Government’s proposal in tomorrow’s meeting,” he said. ....

Farmer Union Leaders To Discuss Government Letter in Meet Today

Even as the stand-off between the Centre and the farmers continues, several farmers affiliated to the Indian Kisan Union and Kisan Sangharsh Samiti from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi met Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday, 22 December to extend support to the new farm laws.
“Representatives of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Gautam Budh Nagar, UP and Indian Kisan Union, New Delhi gave memorandum in favour of new farm laws. They thanked the prime minister and said that these laws will improve the conditions of farmers and should not be repealed,” Tomar said after the meeting, as quoted by ANI. ....

Farmers’ unions and residents across the region observed ‘Shradhanjali Diwas’ to mark the sacrifices of the 24 men, who lost lives in the course of farmers’ protests, here on Sunday.
Huge flex boards of the 24 persons who died during the farm protests at Delhi border were put up at all sites in the district, where demonstrations were held.
Events were held at the DC office Jalandhar, Sanghowal Toll Plaza (Mehatpur), Kartarpur, Phillaur, Nakodar among a number of other villages. While a number of kisan unions gathered outside the DC office on the ‘Shradhanjali Diwas’, farmers, while condemning tax raids on arhtiyas, sought the withdrawal of ordinances from the Centre to prevent the loss of lives. ....
