The Kuki-Zomi-Hmar-Zo community in Manipur celebrated Independence Day with an open-air screening of Bollywood hits. The event, organized at the Tuithaphai joint headquarters of the Hmar Students Association, was aimed to oppose anti-national terror groups. Movies like "Kuch Kuch Hota Hain" and "Uri: The Surgical Strike" were part of the Bollywood lineup, and the open-air theatre was erected on the campus of the student organization in an area affected by ethnic violence.
Civil rights activist Irom Sharmila Chanu has appealed to the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in Manipur following the release of a video showing two women being paraded naked and assaulted.
"No matter where the atrocity; be it in Rajasthan, Chattisgarh or Manipur, in any corner of this country, we deeply value law and order and highly respect women.” Modi said.
