SLN seize over 100kg of Kerala Cannabis in Kalpitiya

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Navy seized over 100 kilograms of Kerala Cannabis, during a special operation conducted in Somathivu Island in the Kalpitiya lagoon, on Monday (Mar. 08).
According to Sri Lanka Navy, a stock of 107 kilograms and 125 grams of Kerala Cannabis was seized during the raid.
Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular operations around the clock to prevent smuggling activities taking place via sea routes.
The Northwestern Naval Command discovered the stock of Kerala Cannabis concealed in an abandoned rafter, during a special search operation in Somathivu Island, reported Sri Lanka Navy.

The suspects traveling on motorcycles had mostly robbed the gold necklaces of women walking on the road and were also involved in various crimes including burglary and extortion of money threatening people, the police said.
Police also found two motorcycles, a mobile phone and a stock of stolen jewellery in their possession.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 40, are residents of Mahiyanganaya, Moneragala, Wellawaya and Kuda Oya and are due to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court today (19).
