The Laredo Ethics Commission on Wednesday voted 3-1 to move forward with an evidentiary hearing to rule whether Blue Cross Blue Shield and former Councilmember George Altgelt violated the city’s ethics code.

Three more Laredo bars that have been temporarily closed by the City of Laredo for allegedly violating COVID-19 orders will remain closed for at least the next few weeks.
Two weeks ago, the Laredo Police Department announced that the city had been granted temporary restraining orders to shut down four restaurant-bars: Blue Moon Country Patio, Social Bar & Grill, Vibe and La Patrona Disco Bar.
Last week, a judge ruled to keep Blue Moon closed until at least Feb. 19. Hearings on the three other temporary restraining orders were set for Thursday.

The City of Laredo revealed Thursday that they had been granted temporary restraining orders to pull the certificates of operation for two local bars that had been violating the state’s COVID-19 rules.
Blue Moon Country Bar & Patio and Social Bar & Grill, both on Laredo’s north side, will be forced to close temporarily.
Because Laredo’s COVID-19 hospitalization rate has been above 15% for some time, local businesses cannot exceed 50% occupancy, per the state’s orders. And in order for bars to operate, more than half of their sales need to be from food. Furthermore patrons must wear masks when they leave their table, no one is allowed to sit or order at the bar and tables must be six feet apart.
