These grants come on the one year anniversary of the explosion of the pulp digester at the Jay mill on April 15, 2020. Seven logging-related businesses who have suffered economic losses and were impacted by the mill explosion and COVID-19, learned they will receive over $7,000 in grants to aid their recovery.

John Simko with Androscoggin Bank said the economic impact is still felt in the area.Sign up for our Newsletters We think that this area will benefit from having $50,000 injected into the local economy by giving it to small businesses that are invested here, Simko said. Kristal Flagg, co-owner K&R Flag Logging, said they were surprised to receive the money. The grant is amazing. It s such a surprise and normally people in the forest industry don t qualify for much, Flagg said.
