Govt to review Skilled Migrant Category Visa soon: No changes on other temporary visa categories

The government has confirmed that it was considering a review of the Skilled Migrant Category visa category but stopped short of making any announcment except for indicating that an announcment will be made soon in near future. 
It was announced in a much anticpated immigration-setting reset announcment tonight in Wellington, delivered by Minister Stuart Nash, in absence of Immigration Minister Kris Fafooi who was unwell and could not attend the event.

The government s latest announcement on immigration - was not a bang - that many had expected - but a whimper - that many had experienced in the recent past from this government on immigration issues.
The speech, which was earlier planned to be given by Immigration Minister Kris Fafooi and expected to be a major announcement on immigration issues, was delivered by Regional Economic Development Minister Stuart Nash and was at best - a vision document for the future of NZ economy - and its relation with low-skill based immigration. ....

The special powers given to the Immigration Minister under a special law Immigration (COVID-19 Response) Amendment ACT 2020 will be extended for two more years till May 2023.
Immigration Minister Kris Fafooi has introduced a new bill in the parliament today.
“Over the past year, we have had to make rapid decisions to vary visa conditions, extend expiry dates, and waive some application requirements across entire visa categories. These decisions have provided more flexibility and certainty to visa holders and employers in New Zealand, and made more migrants available for industries facing labour shortages in a time when New Zealand’s Covid-19 health response needed our borders to be closed,” said Kris Faa ....
