Ganga turns green in Varanasi; Scientists explain why and how

During the Covid-19 lockdown in April and May last year, visuals of cleaner and greener landscapes had done the rounds. Due to lesser pollution, the river Ganga had also cleaned itself. However, the story during the second wave has been exactly the opposite.
In Uttar Pradesh s Varanasi, Ganga seems to have changed its color to green, as witnessed from several river banks. According to scientists, the water can turn toxic and needs to be checked if the greenish colour prevails longer. ....
