EU High Representative Josep Borrell has said that the Western Balkans is a geopolitical problem with key relevance to the European Union, so the EU should provide political engagement with the region.
Speaking after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday, Borrell said that there had been no new developments in the Belgrade-Priština dialogue since his recent talks with Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti, of which there will be a new round in June.
Borrell said that he could say nothing at the moment about the chances of Serbia and Montenegro opening new chapters in their respective EU membership negotiations in June, but that the ministers had stressed the necessity of the Western Balkan partners stepping up their European reforms.
