BioTherm Energy has announced the completion of all four of its renewable energy projects in South Africa, with the latest project having come on stream in the Eastern Cape. The company s R6.5bn investment, connects 284MW into South Africa s national grid and is partnered by Thebe Investment Corporation (TIC), which has a 37.5% stake in all four projects.
The 123MW Golden Valley Wind Energy Facility has reached commercial operations and is expected to generate over 477GWh of renewable power each year, equivalent to the energy needs of approximately 120 000 households. It joins 33MW Excelsior Wind Energy Facility, in the Western Cape; and two solar PV projects in the Northern Cape, namely 46MW Aggeneys Solar and its sister plant 86MW Konkoonsies II Solar, all of which form part of the government s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme s fourth bid round. Netcare helicopter that crashed âcame apart mid-airâ By Mervyn Naidoo, Nkululeko Nene Jan 24, 2021 Share Durban - A Netcare 911 helicopter plummeted into open veld in Winterton, northern KZN after the craftâs tail-end broke away from the fuselage mid-air, and burst into flames on impact on Thursday. Rescue personnel later found the charred remains of four of the helicopterâs occupants, while a fifth person, who was thrown from the craft, was also pronounced dead at the crash scene. Dr Kgopotso Rudolph Mononyane, a cardiothoracic surgeon, was among the deceased. Earlier that day, he had teamed up with other medics and attempted to resuscitate Minister in Presidency, Jackson Mthembu, before he died from Covid-19-related complications. ....
Charné Hundermark, Southern and East Africa Editor January 13, 2021 BioTherm Energy’s 120GW Golden Valley Wind Energy Facility has recently connected to South Africa’s national grid, representing the latest project to come online as part of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) program. The facility consists of 48 Goldwind turbines generating 2.5MW. Connected to the grid through an on-site substation and a dedicated 132kV power line connecting to the Kopleegte substation, the plant is expected to produce more than 447GW hours of electricity per year. Moreover, the facility has achieved one million hours without a lost time incident and was constructed by a team comprising 98% South African employees. ....
