After much ambivalence and hesitation the Church of Greece will give its formal blessing for the country’s vaccination program through an official statement (circular) that will be read out to churchgoers after liturgy this Sunday. The statement is issued  by the Holy Synod  emphasises that “the vaccine does not contradict the Hagiographic, Patriarchal and Canonical Teaching of our Holy Church” and “recommends to everyone, in consultation with their doctor, to benefit from the provision of the science of this vaccine.” “With the enlightenment of God and the persistent effort of medical scientists, humanity now has at its disposal the vaccine, which is capable of raising the wall in the spread of the pandemic,” it said.
