Tsai pledges to promote traditional medicine

The government would protect Taiwan’s traditional Chinese medicine industry and promote its expansion into international markets, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said yesterday.
Its successful use in combating COVID-19 deaths has demonstrated the potential that traditional Chinese medicine developed in Taiwan has in international markets, and the government would ensure the quality of the medicine produced, she said.
Tsai was speaking an event in Taipei marking the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine.

More than 80 percent of Taiwanese have visited a traditional Chinese medicine clinic in the past 12 months, a survey released on Friday by the National Union of Chinese Medical Doctors’ Associations showed.
Men aged 60 or older are more likely to see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor to treat a medical condition or as part of a wellness routine, while 80 percent of respondents said they see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor at least once per year, according to the survey, published ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy Development Act (中醫藥發展法). ....
