2/16/2007: Captain Meriweather Lewis set out from Fort Mandan on this day in 1805 to pursue a group of horse thieves. The day before, a group of Siouans attacked a hunting party sent out by the Corps of Discovery, taking two of the party’s horses. The men arrived back to the fort around 10 p.m. that evening and told Captain Clark of the attack.

A ceremony to celebrate the start of another year’s community garden took place Friday at Minot State University. The MSU Native American Cultural Center and the Red and Green School hosted Aki Onizhishin (Earth if Beautiful): Garden Gathering at the garden space at 725 University Ave. with food, music and a telling of the creation story in Ojibwe tradition by Daniel Henry, a Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa elder.
