The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented event, which brings unique challenges to businesses across the territories. CanNor has been there to support entrepreneurs and businesses since the beginning of the pandemic and continues to support their recovery by making strategic investments that help contribute to Canada s economic recovery.
Through its $15 million Northern Business Relief Fund as well as its $34.3 million portion of the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund, CanNor has supported small- and medium-sized businesses across the territories in an investment of over $31.3 million maintaining over 1,685 jobs and supporting 565 businesses. This funding has gone a long way to help Northern businesses survive the pandemic and position them for a strong recovery.

RANKIN INLET, NU, May 4, 2021 /CNW/ - There are significant economic and environmental opportunities in Nunavut s Kivalliq region. That s why in 2019 the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) invested in technical and feasibility work to support the potential development of a hydroelectric and fibre-optic link that would connect communities in the region to Northern Manitoba.
The feasibility work was successful in gathering technical data, providing design work, examining some of the impacts the link would create, and consulting with government officials and other organizations that could benefit from the project.

Today, the Honourable Daniel Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for CanNor, announced nearly $3 million in additional investments to support early phase data collection and analysis for the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link project.
