Kirsty Murdoch, from Bearsden, discovered two adults and six cygnets living in polluted water at The Saltings. With the help of her husband, she managed to safely transport the family to Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre in Beith - where they are recovering. Kirsty told the Reporter how the rescue unfolded. She said: “A lady phoned me and said she had been out for a walk at The Saltings where she’d seen a swan family, two adults and six cygnets, covered in oil. “My husband and I went down to have a look as volunteer wildlife couriers because we do quite a few swan rescues. ....
Swan family back together at Bearsden Residents of Westerton raised the alarm on social media after the distressed bird was spotted in the canal with a fishing hook embedded in her mouth and one lodged in her back. She was in danger of losing a leg and starving to death. Frantic efforts were made by local people to contact the Scottish SPCA and Hessilhead Wildlife Centre at Beith. Luckily, Hessilhead volunteer Kirsty Murdoch who lives in Bearsden was able to rush to the area with another volunteer minutes after the alarm was raised on Thursday night. She said: “The local people were fantastic. The council’s park department was terrific - they waited with the swan until well past their stopping time. There were four people who waited with the cygnet until we got there and formed a wall to stop it going towards the water. “It’s all come from the community which I find quite a lot when I go out to look at swans. ....

The dog reportedly bit the swan at Mugdock Park which is partially in the Stirling and East Dunbartonshire council areas of Scotland, and close to the town of Milngavie on Valentine s Day. According to the Milngavie and Bearsden Herald, the dog managed to bite the swan s left eye and back.
