April 27, 2011 tornadoes: Denny Chimes to ring 53 times Updated 8:39 AM; Facebook Share Denny Chimes will ring 53 times today in honor of those who died from the devastating tornado that swept through Tuscaloosa County, and across Alabama, 10 years ago. The University of Alabama announced that the university will host a remembrance ceremony, beginning just after 5 p.m., at the chimes on The Quad. The chimes will begin ringing at 5:13 p.m., the school said, at the time the tornado struck the area on April 27, 2011. The April 27, 2011 outbreak included the two deadliest single tornadoes in the state’s history.The storms killed at least 240 in Alabama, and 110 others as tornadoes were reported in 21 states over the duration of the three-day “super outbreak.” In Alabama alone the storms injured more than 2,000 people and caused nearly $4.3 billion in property damage. ....

IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT IT’S BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE A DEADLY TORNADO OUTBREAK IN 2011. WE’VE HEARD SO MANY STORIES FROM THAT DAY STORIES OF DESTRUCTION, OF HEARTBREAK, AND SURVIVAL.
