KOTA KINABALU: Concerns about overcrowding at a night market on Gaya Street here were alleviated after police stepped in to address the situation. Malaysians on social media were sharing pictures and posts on Friday (Feb 19), allegedly of many people thronging the night market, raising worry that the standard operating procedure (SOP) was not being adhered to. Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), however, assured that the situation was under control and from observations, both the public and stall operators present were following the SOP. In a statement issued on their Facebook page, DBKK said they followed-up on information about overcrowding at the Api-Api Night Food Market, which normally starts at 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays. ....
Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH) Mayor Noorliza Awang Alip (pic) said they have prepared several programmes based on the new norm, such as the online tahlil ceremony and solo dancing competition. “Due to the pandemic, we are unable to have any grand celebration. However, the engagement session with the community involving City Hall staff will be continued virtually on Feb 2. Besides involving the participation of youth, we will also organise a solo dance contest which will be judged online, ” she said. On the suspension of parking fee collection at the state capital, Noorliza said they are expected to start collecting parking charges again from Feb 5 when the movement control order is slated to end, but this is also based on any changes to the government’s directive. ....
