Transient Camp Fire Under Investigation

Bend Fire and Rescue extinguished a slow moving brush fire early Monday evening on the west of the river at the base of Deschutes River Canyon. The fiire was extinguished after deploying a hose line down the canyon. A 50'x50' area in low brush was involved in what appeared to a a transient camp. Additional crews made access to fire location to assist with mop up. Water and foam was applied and fire line established around burned area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Bend La Pine Schools announce 2 new principals, 2 interim principals Bend-La Pine Schools New Bend-La Pine principals (clockwise, from upper left) Kimberly Sundberg, Lisa Birk, Stephanie Jensen, Ryan Kelling BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) Bend-La Pine Schools Interim Superintendent Lora Nordquist announced Monday that four schools will have new leaders, starting July 1: Bear Creek Elementary School, High Lakes Elementary School, Silver Rail Elementary School and Pacific Crest Middle School. “We are excited to share these announcements with our community and believe these engaging leaders will help continue to strengthen our schools in the years to come,” said Nordquist.  High Lakes Elementary Kimberly Sundberg has been selected to serve as the new principal for High Lakes Elementary School. She will follow Linda Burley, who is retiring July 1.

Four Bend Schools Welcome New Leaders Four schools in Bend will have new leaders starting July 1: Bear Creek Elementary School, High Lakes Elementary School, Silver Rail Elementary School and Pacific Crest Middle School. High Lakes Elementary Kimberly Sundberg has been selected to serve as the new principal for High Lakes Elementary School. She will follow Linda Burley, who is retiring July 1. Sundberg  is currently serving as assistant principal and dean of students for Haines School in Haines, Alaska, a position she has served in for three years. Previously, Sundberg served as a summer camp director for two years. She also has 18 years of classroom teaching experience in Alaska.

Finalists Selected For High Lakes Principal

Students, staff and community members are invited to meet the four finalists for the principal position at High Lakes Elementary School during a virtual forum Wednesday, May 5 at 4:15 p.m. Attendees will get a chance to see presentations from the candidates and provide feedback about the finalists. Finalist details: Erich Brocker is currently serving as the assistant principal at William E. Miller Elementary School in Bend, a position he has held for six years. Prior to that, Brocker spent three years as an administrator at Highland Magnet at Kenwood School. Brocker also spent 10 years as regional principal and school psychologist for the Sonoma County Office of Education. Colleen Chamberlain is currently serving as Student Services Coordinator at Sage Elementary in Redmond, a position she has held for six years. Prior to that, she spent two years as vice principal at an elementary in Walla Walla, Wash. Chamberlain also has 19 years of teaching experience in Oregon, Washington and
