Ohio residents can again seek Pandemic Unemployment Assistance


About 134,000 residents have been waiting for further help since the program ended in December.

COLUMBUS, Ohio Over 100,000 Ohioans can again receive federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance after the state upgraded its system over the weekend.
About 134,000 residents have been waiting to receive Pandemic Unemployment Benefits since the program expired in December. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services completed required upgrades that also allow Ohioans to submit new PUA applications.
“Time has been of the essence as we worked to implement the programming necessary to provide these benefits,” ODJFS Director Kimberly Henderson said. “Those eligible will receive all benefits they are entitled to, in addition to the new weekly $300 supplemental payments available to all unemployment insurance beneficiaries through recent federal legislation.” ....

A program designed for young people who “age out” of the foster care system has helped more than 2,000 successfully transition to independent adulthood.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) said that the Bridges Program allows young people in foster care between their 18th and 21st birthdays to request housing and other supportive services, as long as they are in school, gainfully employed, participating in an employment program, or have a medical condition that prevents them from going to school or working.
Highland County JFS Director Katie Smith told The Times-Gazette that at present there are approximately 175 local children in foster care. ....

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine warned Wednesday night in an address to Ohioans that he might close restaurants and bars if COVID-19 numbers don’t decline.
COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio can expect to see more doses of the coronavirus vaccine that it’s receiving from both Pfizer and Moderna in the coming weeks, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday.
Ohio currently receives about 73,000 doses a week from each company, with Moderna expected to increase that amount to about 105,000 next week, the governor said. Pfizer officials have told DeWine that its own weekly supply of 73,000 should grow by about 40% by the middle of February and double by the end of March. ....

Pfizer, Moderna boosting Ohio vaccination supply


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio can expect to see more doses of the coronavirus vaccine that it’s receiving from both Pfizer and Moderna in the coming weeks, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday.
Ohio currently receives about 73,000 doses a week from each company, with Moderna expected to increase that amount to about 105,000 next week, the governor said. Pfizer officials have told DeWine that its own weekly supply of 73,000 should grow by about 40% by the middle of February and double by the end of March.
That good news was tempered by a notice from the governor that he repeated again Thursday: Once Ohio begins providing vaccines next week to everyone 65 and older, the state will hold at that level for several weeks because that age group is so large, at about 2 million. ....
