In 1853, she was a white woman from new york, moved down here and built the first africanamerican Teaching School for free africanamericans in washington, d. C. This is before the civil war. It was also called the miner school for colored girls. Mytrilla came in 1851 and only had 100 in her pocket when she came. Most people thought she would be arrested or killed when she said what she wanted to do. And although there were abolitionists who sympathized with her cause it was like her own independent project.
