Kind of a genre that keeps growing in literature, both fiction and nonfiction. We had a panel like this three years ago, and it really was intended to celebrate the fact that the Supreme Court is, seems to be the subject of more and more books of all kinds. And judging by the corner of my desk where i stack books about the court that have come in from publishers, the genre has only increased since the last event. So we thought wed do this again especially since the Supreme Court is in the news more than ever these days. Im especially pleased with the panel thats been assembled this evening. Ive written about all of these fine authors and mentioned all of them in my annual lists of the top ten books for the Supreme Court officionado in your life. Ive praised each one of them not just because of their books, but because their ....

Do you want to talk a little bit about the response to the book and what you have heard from people now that the book has been published . I believe there are many people who have been upset by the book. It is certainly an upsetting topic. Many do not want to relive the tragedy again. For the most part, the feedback i have received has been positive. One of the things that has occurred it has been gratifying is that many people think me for writing the book, which i appreciate command many people have said, i think every parent should read this book. And i hope my hope is, by reading the book they will lose a child, as i did. I will see that something can be terribly wrong when it is and not just write it off. So the fact that people are reading it and talking about it is very gratifying and what i hope to accomplish. I know that we appreciate the time and energy you put into this book, particularly the conversations about how people should be talking with their teens, asking the quest ....

Want to segregate themselves . Arent they all trying to to, you know, form their own clubs or their own cliques . Well, some of thats true. Thats true of asianamericans. Its true of many groups. And if we want to really have a racially diverse, integrated society, we have to fight our own tendencies to do that. But partly, theres a difference. Your grandchildren are going to be my grandchildren. Theres going to be intermarriage. And and we have a shared future here. But if whites are anxious about being a minority you know what that shows . It shows two things. It shows theres some advantages to being white. Theres a hierarchy, theyd have to to give something up. And second, it shows were not yet really color blind because whites could never look around the room and say, whoa, im a minority. But thats not how it works. We may aspire to that, but we dont have that reality. Cspan your brothers, nelson and carson, what do they do . [laughter] guest theyre writers. Tear twins. Thought she had said terrorists. The distinction between armed militants and terrorists. She felt like she was telling them one thing and susan rice was telling them something different. Host what is one thing you learned . Guest i came into this thinking that she was very buttoned up and not there was not a big human side to her. She not only is quite funny, she has a wicked sense of humor. She does have this feel of Public Service, a duty for Public Service. Guest one of the biggest things i learned, behind the shell, all politicians have it. She said women in Public Service should develop skin like a rhinoceros. Behind that, there is some raw energy and emotion. She is decisive, you hear about things she said to her aides and her reaction to things like the white house

Groups in the years of the cold why and government organizations made up of anticommunist private citizens engaged in cold war propaganda and it later emerged that these groups were being secretly funded and to some extent managed by the cia and one group that i really didnt engage with was the american friends of the middle east and it is purposed to do so much with the cold war and as with promoting the arab world to an american audience and it was also antizionists, that having the influence of the emerging israel lobby in 1950s america. This seems so odd and unexpected and i didnt really know quite what to do with it. So i mention it and then put my middle american friends to the one side. So i came back to the subject and story and began to delve into it further. I soon realized that the main office in the main cia officer involved in the creation of the american friends of the middle east was none other than current cameras about. This name might already be familiar to you before ....
