We do things differently. we ll take care of it. vo: we put members first. join the nation. thank you. nationwide is on your side welcome back. i m melissa harris-perry. we begin with the latest on the manhunt for a prison escapee in new york. 21 days after escaping from upstate new york s clinton correctional facility inmate richard matt was shot dead by federal agents friday afternoon. the other escaped killer david sweat, is still on the run. matt was shot dead just more than 30 miles away from the maximum security prison near the town of malone. joining me now is chris pollone. what s the latest on the church? reporter: melissa, much the same as in the last hour. we continue to see groups of state troopers and other federal and state agents moving along ....
Law enforcement officials say police may be closing in on the convicted killer david sweat. a massive search under way for the fugitive after his accomplice richard matt was shot dead by a border patrol tactical team on friday. they verbalably challenged him, told him to put up his hands and he was shot when he didn t comply. there were no shots fired by matt at the scene. he never fired the weapon at the scene, they found a .20 gauge shotgun by his body. local residents are breathing a half sigh of relief. some are not staying in their homes afraid the killers were lurking by. relief. i mean for the past 20 days every single person has followed this diligently. people listen to the radio, the scanner, hopeing that law enforcement catch as break. today, it sounds like they did. ....

Was a shotgun that one of those inmates had today that they were using to shoot. all right. well thank you very much. jean is going to stay with us. i want to go to pamela brown. he s been talking to law enforcement about the hunt. you just heard jean saying that perhaps richard matt was armed with an antique shotgun. david sweat shot a sheriff s department 22 times. that s how he ended up in jail in the first place. he s desperate. what do you know about how armed he may be right now? reporter: i know law enforcement officials are operated as though he is armed. that s what they re assuming right now. the belief among law enforcement is that the weapons were stolen from that cabin that we were just talking about. we know that they raided a cabin in the area, stole a lot of items from there. richard matt was armed with a shotgun when he got into that shootout with authorities earlier today and was shot and killed. the belief is that david sweat ....
