Mississippi River bridge | Preparatory works begin ahead of beam repairs

Work has commenced on the Interstate-40 bridge in the US in preparation for the start of repairs to a fault that went unnoticed for at least two years
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has appointed Kiewit Infrastructure Group to undertake the repairs. The contractor started work last week with the installation of a temporary platform at the site.
The repairs will be divided into two phases of work. Phase one involves adding two 9m steel plates on either side of the fracture to strengthen the bridge for contractors and equipment to safely work on the phase two repairs.
Phase two will cut out and replace the damaged section and inspect the structure for any additional concerns that need to be addressed before the bridge can be reopened to traffic. ....

Just in time for the upcoming summer season, the Waikiki Beach maintenance project to restore and rejuvenate Waikiki is complete.
The 14-week-long recurring maintenance retrieved marine sand from a large sand field in shallow waters about 1,000-feet offshore.
The project has roughly doubled the beach width on most sections of the Royal Hawaiian Beach cell between the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and Kūhiō Beach Park.
Sand was first dredged and then pumped to a stockpile at the Kūhiō Beach swim basin. Over six days sand was then trucked to the Royal Hawaiian Beach, which reopened last Friday. ....

The Hernando DeSoto Bridge, which carries I-40 across the Mississippi River between Tennessee and Arkansas, was suddenly closed on May 11 when engineers from the Arkansas Department of Transport discovered a fractured support beam during a routine inspection. Since then, new information has come to light revealing that damage to the bridge has been visible and evident as far back as 2016.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced it had awarded a contract for the emergency repair of the bridge to Kiewit Infrastructure Group. TDOT said the work would be completed in two phases beginning as early as May 19, and that both phases would be completed before the bridge could be reopened. ....
