HORSFORTH’S Walk of Art is returning this year with the apt theme of “Up in the Air”. Organisers say the festival is fast becoming a must do event in the Leeds annual Calendar. It is a free, community led, inclusive and creative event, with the aim of showcasing creativity by local and almost local artists and performers in everyday and unusual spaces. The event aims to inspire the community to make creativity, in all its forms, accessible and engaging. In 2019 more than 120 artists displayed and performed numerous art forms in 83 venues around the popular Leeds suburb. And In 2020, despite the pandemic, the festival forged ahead with online galleries, a live music weekend and residents taking part in window galleries across the suburb. ....
A Natter Bench has been installed in a Horsforth park in a bid to help tackle loneliness after lockdown. The 2.4 metre bench will allow for socially distanced chats and is the first of its kind in Leeds. Horsforth ward councillors Jonathon Taylor, Dawn Collins and Jackie Shemilt have secured funding for the bench, which has been put in place in Hall Park ready for the end of the current lockdown period. If the scheme proves successful councillors hope others could be put in place across Leeds. The idea came from a Facebook community group, where residents discussed noticing more elderly people sat alone as lockdown restrictions were eased last year. ....
