Pallister blames COVID-19 vaccine supply for delays as over 2/3 of Manitoba s doses unused
Premier Brian Pallister says every Manitoban who wants the COVID-19 vaccine could have it by the end of March if the federal government provided enough doses, but the province has distributed fewer than one-third of the doses it has received.

As more COVID-19 vaccine is delivered to Manitoba in in the coming weeks, the province will expand eligibility criteria to help protect more health-care workers and those most at risk of serious illness from the virus. These adjustments will include progressively immunizing a broader range of health-care workers, residents of personal care homes and elderly Manitobans.
The eligibility criteria for next week’s immunization clinic will remain broadly unchanged, based on vaccine supply, to include health-care workers who have direct patient contact in:
critical care;
a COVID-19 immunization clinic or testing site (expanded to include testing sites).
WINNIPEG Manitoba is getting ready to ramp up its COVID-19 immunization campaign. Plans were unveiled Wednesday to broaden the eligibility criteria in the New Year as more vaccine arrives to get doses into thousands of arms each week. It comes as Health Canada granted approval to a second vaccine to protect people from the virus. “Supply is not the only issue. We also have to be able to transport the vaccine to personal care homes and to all other sites as part of our rollout plan. The approval of the Moderna vaccine today is a positive step,” said Dr. Joss Reimer, Manitoba’s medical lead on COVID-19 immunization.
