Invasive species is an environmental buzzword right now and for good reason. The estimated price tag of managing the damages caused by invasive species such as the emerald ash borer or Asian carp is $120 billion annually in the U.S.

Non-native invasive species are one of the biggest environmental threats, second only to habitat loss, says Kelly Allsup, a University of Illinois Extension horticulture educator. Once invasive species have a foothold it can be hard to remove them, so prevention and early detection and response is key.
A native plant, animal, or insect species occur naturally in a region, while non-native species are introduced, usually by humans, from somewhere else either unintentionally or on purpose. Oak restoration project set to receive funding | The Gazette-Democrat

An oak ecosystem restoration project proposed by the Shawnee Resource Conservation and Development Area, SRCD, will receive $1.1 million in funding over the next five years. 
The Southern Illinois Oak Ecosystem Restoration project will allow for the targeted implementation of forest conservation practices on an estimated 4,000 acres of private land in Union, Alexander, Johnson, Pope and Hardin counties. 
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, USDA, announced the award on April 26 in a press release highlighting a national investment of $330 million in 85 locally driven, public-private partnerships. 
Projects will address climate change, improving the nation’s water quality, combat drought, enhancing soil health, supporting wildlife habitat and protecting agricultural viability.  ....
