THE MURUGAPPAN FAMILY
What ‘crime’ did these children commit?
The forlorn image of a sick, little girl lying in a hospital bed is all the more heartbreaking because we know she has spent almost her entire life in detention. The forced removal of Tharnicaa, her older sister and parents, in the middle of the night, was shocking. Equally abhorrent to myself and many Australians is isolating and depriving two innocent children of their freedom and right to a normal childhood. What is their crime? They are sacrificial lambs to a hardline government policy meant to deter those seeking asylum.
