Report from Plymouth Beach Environmental Technician The Crossover at Plymouth Long Beach will open for the season on Saturday, May 29. The Crossover will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, subject to restrictions for nesting shorebirds and tidal conditions. So far this season, 31 pairs of piping plovers have nested at Long Beach, and there are several more pairs that have not laid eggs yet. Least terns have returned and are settling into their nesting colonies, and common terns have returned to the point and have begun egg laying. Ospreys returned to all three nests again this year, and several more species of songbirds and shorebirds have also returned to nest at Long Beach this season.
