Amid shortage of vaccine to fight COVID-19, the Kerala government on Monday announced a global tender for procuring three crore vaccine doses. Chief Minister Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state has initiated steps to call for a global tender for sourcing the vaccine doses. The tender notification will be issued today, he told reporters here.
Vijayan said the vaccination of those in the 18-44 age group has started in the state.

Kerala s COVID-19 vaccine stock will last only three more days and the state needs at least 50 lakh doses, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said in a letter to Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
The letter by the Kerala Chief Minister comes amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country. Reports of hospitals in other states asking for more vaccine doses are becoming common as the lines of waiting people grow longer. Kerala is witnessing a rise in the number of Covid cases at present, Mr Vijayan wrote in the letter. The stock (of vaccine) which is left with us is sufficient for conducting vaccination for the next three days only. This shortage of vaccine has been brought to the notice of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. We are yet to get any additional supply of Covid vaccine, the Chief Minister wrote.
4.35 lakh vials of Covishield vaccine to reach Kerala on Wednesday

Health Department prepares a list of 133 sites vaccination centres Kerala is expecting to receive 4.35 lakh vials of the Covishield vaccine in the first batch on Wednesday with the consignment being delivered at the State’s three main airports at Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.
The first consignment will be stored in the three regional centres of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode from where the Covid-19 vaccine will be despatched to nearby districts in the southern, central and northern districts, respectively, ensuring flawless distribution, said official sources.
