Renovated children's park in Kochi to open soon- The New Indian Express

KOCHI: The renovated Indira Priyadarshini Park, more commonly known as the Ernakulam Children’s Park, would be thrown open to public within the next few weeks. According to officials concerned, the plan is to complete the renovation work in next two weeks. The park, located near the Marine Drive and the Ernakulam boat jetty, is closed since 2018. KEL (Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Co Ltd) is tasked with the `4 crore renovation.
“The Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown delayed renovation work. As per the earlier plan, the park was to be reopened in 2020. Now the work is in full swing. KEL authorities and the contractor have promised us to complete the work by February 15. Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML) also has assured to complete the work in front of the park before February 15,” said Ernakulam MLA T J Vinod, who is also the chairman of the project’s work monitoring committee. ....

Initiative with top tech institutions will help KEL develop new market-oriented products
The public sector Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company (KEL) has joined hands with the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, Trivandrum Engineering Science and Technology Research Park, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Thrissur Government Engineering College, and a host of other institutions to set up an industry-university chair for electrical research.
The chair, set up at the behest of the State government, will address the lack of facilities for research and development in public sector undertakings in the State, says KEL Managing Director Shaji Varghese. ....

Facility to be set up at Mamala unit of company near Kochi
Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company Limited (KEL) expects to commission the first of its electric vehicle charging stations in February. The charging station is coming up at the Mamala unit of the public sector company near Kochi.
The facilities being built by the company will include a 60-kW rapid DC charger, 7.5-kW AC charger and AC charger type 2, 22-kW chargers, according to a Facebook post by Industries Minister E.P. Jayarajan. ....

State govt. offers assistance of ₹3 crore to the project
The public sector Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company (KEL) will begin production of motors for electric vehicles, and the State government has extended an assistance of ₹3 crore to the project.
Company sources said the project requirement was to the tune of ₹10 crore, and the ₹3-crore support extended by the government now will be utilised for launching initial work. The launch of the motor production unit for electric vehicles is expected to take up the total turnover of the company to around ₹40 crore. The company expects a total profit of nearly ₹1.5 crore during the financial year. ....
