View Comments In 2019, Kentucky distillers produced more than 1,7 million barrels of bourbon, nearly a four-fold increase from production levels a decade earlier. So it s no surprise that bourbon has experienced a two-decade boom which has no end in site. And Kentucky, our neighbor to the north, is at the forefront: the state produces 95% of the world s bourbon supply, according to the Kentucky Distillers Association. Another interesting fact: distilled spirit sales increased 55% after the COVID-19 pandemic began. In recent years, our area has seen several local distilleries pop up, garnering great support from locals, and drawing visitors from far and wide. We now have Old Glory, MB Roland, Casey Jones and Leatherwood, all close by. ....

(March 12, 2021) As chairwoman of the board for the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, Jessica Pendergrass said 2020 was a year that required action and change, not just words, when it came to diversity, equity and inclusion. She is only the third woman chair of the board in its 140 years. Pendergrass will co-chair a panel discussion March 12 during the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits virtual Bourbon Industry Conference. Panelists will discuss their experiences in their own career paths and field questions from conference attendees. “Women in leadership are often questioned and held to a different standard than men. Our skillset is analyzed, our intentions are questioned, our communication style is scrutinized, and we are asked to seek a second opinion from men when advising on a topic,” said Pendergrass, general counsel and chief ....

He recently said setting higher standards for whiskeys in order to call them “Indiana rye whiskey” will help them stand out and earn a positive reputation.
