George Cressey II, a co-founder of W.C. Cressey & Son Inc. and longtime firefighter for Kennebunk Fire Rescue, died Thursday after a five-year battle with kidney disease. He was 69.
Mr. Cressey was remembered this week as a beloved Kennebunk resident.
“He lived his life the way he wanted with the people he loved,” said his wife, Susan Cressey, retired principal of Kennebunk High School. “He was a quiet man with a heart of gold. He had this gruff exterior, but he had a big heart. All he wanted was to help people.” ....

Kennebunk ME mourns loss of longtime firefighter George Cressey

KENNEBUNK, Maine George Cressey was passionate about firefighting about protecting others, raising funds to keep Kennebunk Fire-Rescue strong and helping young colleagues learn about his noble profession.
Cressey, a local firefighter for more than 50 years, died peacefully Thursday, May 20, following a battle with kidney disease. He was 69.
“Everybody in town knew him,” his friend, Skip D’Ascanio, said this week. “He was just a really great guy. We’ll all miss him.”
At the time of his death, Cressey was president of the Kennebunk Fire Department Combination A.
Cressey joined Kennebunk Fire Rescue when he was 19 years old, according to a post on the Rescue’s page on Facebook. His 53-year career spanned many changes in the field of firefighting, “both in practice and landscape,” the post read. In particular, the post added, Cressey was a passionate fundraiser for the department and took on a significant role in its annual golf tournament. He ....

George F. Cressey II passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease. George was born on Jan. 21, 1952 in Portland, the son of Janis Cook Cressey and W. Churchill Cressey. In 1976, he married the love of his life, Susan Fagan Cressey.
George grew up in Kennebunk and was active in the community as a businessman and volunteer. He was the co-founder of W.C. Cressey & Son, Inc. He and his father served as distributors for Thomas Built Buses in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont until George proudly turned the business over to his son Brian. ....
