KENILWORTH, NJ - Kenilworth historian and Kean University student Michael Naya reflects on the men and women who have served our country and gives details on receiving the Orange Heart Medal.
As summertime approaches, we are looking ahead to celebrating Memorial Day, Independence Day and lastly Labor Day weekend. Despite that I cannot help on reflecting about all of those I have met over the years who served in the Vietnam War. This is especially relevant when on my frequent trip to Acme I recently saw two representatives of VFW Post 2230 distributing Poppy Flowers in honor of those who have given their lives for our nation. One of these men wore a baseball cap embroidered, “Vietnam” with the engineer’s logo on it. After meeting these two individuals I couldn t help but reflect on why these veterans are still often overlooked in our nation today.
KENILWORTH, NJ – Get to know Michael and Victoria Devlin!
Born and raised in Kenilworth, Michael Devlin married Victoria Power from Framingham, Massachusetts on October 25, 1997. Their love story is one that you hear about in the movies and chic lit books. Michael was a groomsman and Vickie was a bridesmaid in the same wedding. As part of the same wedding party, they met in the Church of the Assumption parking lot in Roselle Park and were matched up to walk down the aisle together on October 6, 1995. The wedding party pair up turned out quite well and five months later the two were engaged. In 1998 they bought a house in Kenilworth and have been living there ever since.
