Double win for NZ country music star Tami Neilson

Kiwi country music superstar Tami Neilson was presented with both the Recorded Music NZ Te Kaipuoro Tuawhenua Toa Tui | Best Country Music Artist and APRA Best Country Song at the 2021 Country Music Awards last night.
A celebrated musician in both the local and international country music scene, Tami has been recognised for her sensational 2020 album ‘CHICKABOOM!’ with the Tui for Best Country Artist.
She also received the award for APRA Best Country Song for her infectious single ‘Queenie, Queenie’.
These two awards will be joining her previous accolades, which include an APRA Silver Scroll and multiple Tui from previous Music Awards including Best Country Album in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2015. ....

Hamilton gospel musician Nicky Moran has reached the finals of the 40th MLT Song Writing Award. Moran is among 10 songwriters short-listed for the finals of the award, which forms part of next month’s MLT NZ Gold Guitar Awards. She describes her song Gonna Turn as “helping us to change from the old to the new life we are destined for. A life which is full of hope, kindness and forgiveness.” She will travel to Gore to perform her song in the final on June 3. Her performance will come straight off the back off her annual prison tour, where she performs in all New Zealand prisons for free – something she has done each year since 2014. ....

Current country music Queen Tami Neilson leads the nominations, as a finalist in both te Kaipuoro Tuawhenua Toa | Best Country Music Artist for her album CHICKABOOM, and APRA Best Country Music Song for ‘Queenie Queenie’. Joining Neilson in Best Country Music Artist category is former winner Jody Direen for her album Smokin’ Ashes and Christchurch/ Ōtautahi newcomer Ryan Fisherman for his debut album Vibe. In the APRA Best Country Music Song category, Neilson is joined by Delaney Davidson for ‘Sleep’ and Kendall Elise Todd for ‘Between Hello and Goodbye’. ....
