The San Jose SaberCats improved their record to 4-2 on Saturday night after a 56-36 victory against the 1-5 Cleveland Gladiators.
Quarterback Russ Michna made his home debut and completed 18-of-25 passes for 197-yards and four touchdowns. Michna managed the ball efficiently and contributed to the SaberCats first game without a turnover this season.
“He’s getting better. He’s smart with the football. He gets it out of his hands quick and he definitely can throw a good long ball,” said Owner/ Head Coach Darren Arbet.
Michna connected with wide receiver Jason Willis grabbing eight catches for 85-yards and three touchdowns, matching wide receiver Jamarko Simmons three scores. ....

Coming into Friday night’s matchup between bitter rivals from both historical and modern perspectives, playoff implications were hardly in the discussion of what was on the line. With both the Rattlers and the SaberCats already punching in their tickets to the postseason, revenge, momentum, and perfection represented the true elements of what was really at stake. Before this shocker unfolded, the Arizona Rattlers held a 14-0 record and had a favorable chance at being the first Arena Football League franchise to drive through a full year undefeated.
