COMMENT | Veterans political party - long-term threat to civilian control of military? Modified2:52 am - COMMENT | A group of armed forces veterans have formed a political party called Parti Kemakmuran Negara (PKN). They are seeking recognition from the Registrar of Societies so they can field in GE15 some 50 candidates they have identified in seats which have military camps and a large concentration of retired personnel. They say the main reason for PKN’s formation is to fight for quicker resolution of long-standing issues concerning salary and pensions. Also, another motive is that PKN is dismayed at the current state of national governance. They imply they can do better, claiming to have capable and highly educated people in their ranks. ....

PVATTBM Vice President II, Datuk Zaman Haji Bayang (pic), said the intention and decision made by ATM is solely its own stand. “I would like to inform PVATTBM members that the proposal by ATM to form a party (PKN) and to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15) is its own affair and has nothing to do with PVATTBM including in Sabah. ....

Army veterans want to contest in GE15 A - Armed forces veterans have voiced their intention to contest in the 15th general election (GE15) using their own political platform, targeting about 50 parliamentary and state seats. MAF Veterans Association president Sharuddin Omar said they were in the midst of forming a party named Parti Kemakmuran Negara and that its stance on contesting in GE15 was due to the government’s delay in resolving issues related to veterans, especially involving salary and pensions as well as other issues concerning the people.
