The family of Rodney Levi is hoping a coroner’s inquest into his death later this year will include Mi’kmaq and their traditions.
The lawyer for Levi’s family, Alisa Lombard, tells CBC that hearing this week that the Crown would not lay any charges against the officers involved was devestating like losing him all over again. The prosecution service says there’s no reasonable expectation of a conviction.
Lombard said the family hopes the planned coroner’s inquest in October will reveal if the officers followed protocol. She says Mi’kmaq should be involved in the process and included on the coroner’s jury….and the family will be traditional Mi’kmaq “truth-finding methods” to be used during the inquest.
