Staff Report A stage musical about the impact of a voting rights march in Alabama is being offered to family audiences in Sarasota and Manatee counties free of charge through Sunday by the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall and the Van Wezel Foundation. “Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom” is adapted from the memoir of Lynda Blackmon Lowery, who was the youngest person to walk all the way from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, on the Voting Rights March in 1965. The production, adapted for the stage by actress Ally Sheedy, is filled with traditional and original gospel and freedom songs that help tell Lowery s story. ....
