An Edwards County Teen is dead following a motorcycle accident in Richland County that happened on Monday. Not much is available on the accident at this time, but according to the Edwards County Coroner's Office, the name of the teen that passed away in the accident is David Walkenbach. Walkenbach was a resident of West Salem and had just concluded his freshman year at Edwards County High School. Officials with the Edwards County Schools have announced that grief counselors will be available from 9 AM until 12 noon today to talk with students at West Salem Grade School. Officials have also said that students may also contact Laura Holder or Kelley Biggs over the phone at 618-445-2325 if a future conversation is needed. ....
An orientation meeting for parents and eighth grade students of Albion Grade School and West Salem Grade School who will entering Edwards County High School next fall will take place this Wednesday. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Edwards County High School. Principal Dale Schmittler, will review important rules for high school students while guidance counselor Kelley Biggs, will discuss course requests and graduation requirements. Nurse Erica Anderson will explain the health requirements for high school. At the meeting, parents will receive more detailed information about courses and scheduling. Immediately following the meeting, the high school will hold an open house. This will be an opportunity to meet the ECHS staff and see the classrooms. As part of Make a Difference Day retail merchants and participating stores will have specials, raffles, and more during their Moonlight Madness Sales this evening from 5-8pm, with merchants donating a portion of sales to MADD. Hayden Brown will perform from 5-6:30pm, Nathanial James at 6:30-8pm. Big Boy Catering will be serving up Porkburgers and Drinks with a portion of all sales going toward MADD. Donation boxes will be available downtown, entry free by donation, all proceeds will go to FCHS for Make a Difference Day. Music and Food will be available on 2nd St. Lady Mules Volleyball Senior night tonight takes place tonight, and the Lady Mules want everyone to come out and support Make A Difference Day at the Beach Night. There will be a free photo booth, the Freshman game begins at 5:15 pm, and 100% of the Gate will go to the Make A Difference Day Splash Pad Project. The City of Fairfield and the Wayne County Chamber will be hosting Touch-A-Truck on Thursday, October 20th from 5-8pm ....
The Edwards County Health Office in conjunction with the Edwards County Farm Bureau will be offering a drive-thru flu shot clinic today from 11:00am until 4:00pm at the Edwards County Fairgrounds in Albion, Illinois. "Offering a drive-thru clinic allows us the ability to serve our community in an efficient manner," states Amanda McCoy of the Edwards County Health Office. The drive-thru flu shot clinic is for private pay, private insurance, and Medicare customers only. All Medicaid customers MUST call the health office and make an appointment to get a flu shot. Anyone ages six months and over can get a flu shot, however, the drive-thru clinic is recommended for only those ages 5 and up. Cost for private pay flu shots is $30 for low dose and $65 for high dose (for those over age 65). Anyone who wishes to get a flu shot at the drive-thru clinic will remain in their car and is urged to wear short sleeves. Those paying with private insurance or Medicare need to bring their insuran ....
