The family of Kiwi veteran Kane Te Tai gathered in Auckland to unveil the plaque commemorating the one-year anniversary of his death while fighting in.
The body of a slain New Zealand soldier in Ukraine will be brought back home by his uncle at an expected cost of around $65,000.
Kane Te Tai was killed in action while clearing a trench last week in the Vuhledar region.
He is the third New Zealander to die in the conflict.
