Similar to how a new navy ship touching water for the first time is blessed and named, the new humphries building has been christened with the breaking of a champagne bottle. Inside, the horror that ran through these halls are now replaced with smiles and hugs. When you start seeing people you havent seen since we were in the building, but its good to be back. Navy yard employee andr terry couldnt wait to come back. 17 months after the tragic massacre the old building 197, has officially reopened. But not before a 63 million renovation changed the design and layout. Everything just happened so quickly. It just is hard to remember but trying to find everyone making sure everyone was ok. Getting to this day has not been easy. Its been a long road. Physically, mentally and emotionally, but we are back. While about 400 employees will move back in today were told it will take about seven weeks to move everyone back here at the navy yard. About 4,000 employees have been working out of a temp ....

Viability of rural ambulance services in S.D. at risk due to staffing and funding shortages


Rural ambulance services in South Dakota are having an increasingly hard time recruiting volunteers and generating revenues, putting the stability of the services at risk and making it more likely that rural residents will endure longer response times in emergencies or possibly lose ambulance service altogether.
While most larger cities in South Dakota have professional ambulance services or fire departments with paid staff members, rural services rely mostly on volunteers. In recent years, those rural providers have seen fewer people willing to volunteer and those who do volunteer are older residents who are aging out of the workforce. 
About a third of rural ambulance directors in South Dakota said they couldn’t respond to a call because of staffing shortages, according to a 2016 survey. Roughly a third more said response times were delayed due to lack of staffing.  ....
