stacey: right now, the political battle is brewing over the successor to supreme court justice antonin scalia. scalia died this weekend. senate republicans want to wait until after the presidential election to fill the supreme court vacancy. but the president today challenged republicans to explain why they would refuse to consider a supreme court candidate. pres. obama: one court where we would expect elected officials to rise above day to day politics. and this will be the opportunity for senators to do their jobs. stacey: iowa senator charles grassley heads the senate judiciary committee. he wouldn t say today whether or not he would schedule hearings in the senate if president obama appoints a nominee. the senator would only say he will take it one step at a time. said senator senator grassley i think that it should wait : until the next election, and i believe that that s the right important position and would be kind of in line with what democratic leaders said in the
