Sea-fillers called out by Koh Kong officials over illegal operations

Local authorities and specialists in Koh Kong province have given a 30-day ultimatum to three people who used soil to fill in an area of sea in Kiri Sakor district. The offenders have been warned to remove the soil or face the law.
The ultimatum was given after soil was used to fill part of the sea, affecting the beauty of sea, mangrove forests and the environment.
Deputy provincial governor Sok Sothy held a meeting on February 26 concerning the incident and mangrove forest logging and the building of bridges and cottages in Kiri Sakor district. The meeting was attended by local authorities and specialists. ....

Kampong Speu provincial criminal police are searching for suspects involved in the murder of a man in the forest of Thmey village in Phnom Sruoch district’s Chambak commune. Villagers found the burning body on February 28. Cambodia and Vietnam on February 19 made inroads on a handful of cross-border trade issues amid Covid-19, with Hanoi given the privilege to set a concrete date for the official opening of the long-awaited Prey Vor-Binh Hiep international border checkpoint in southern Svay Rieng province.

The government of Japan has committed $2 million to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to counteract the threats posed by flooding to food security and impacted communities across the Kingdom.
The grant was signed on February 22 by Japanese ambassador Masahiro Mikami and WFP Country Director Claire Conan at a meeting presided over by Ngan Chamroeun, secretary of state for the Ministry of Interior and head of the National Committee for Sub-national Democratic Development (NCDD). ....

The Kingdom is set to purchase an additional five million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from India and is requesting a first phase shipment of one million doses.
The request was made when Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn spoke on the phone with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on February 18.
In a press release, Cambodia’s foreign ministry said the ministers had discussed Covid-19 vaccinations and the furtherance of international cooperation in the fight against the pandemic. ....
