The Lagos State Government has announced plans to shut the Third Mainland Bridge from midnight, Friday, February 19 to midnight Sunday 21, 2021 for final rehabilitation works.
The bridge which has been under repairs for the past six months will be shut to allow the contractor to cast the final rehabilitated expansion joint before it will be finally reopened for traffic end of February.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who announced this on Tuesday, in a statement in affirmation to an earlier statement by the Federal Controller of Works, Mr Kayode Popoola, stated that the bridge will be shut off completely from vehicular movement to enable the contractor set the expansion joint concrete without vibrations caused by vehicular movement to achieve the desired strength of the concrete. ....

Again, FG to shut Third Mainland Bridge for 72 hours

This is the second time the bridge would be closed to traffic for 72 hours, within the past two months.
Speaking in an interview with NAN on Wednesday, he said the 72-hour closure would take effect from the midnight of January 29, till 12am on February 1, 2021.
On December 22, 2020, Popoola had announced a 72-hour closure of the bridge from midnight of December 25, 2020, in order to enable contractors cast concrete on the expansion joints and prevent vibration of the bridge when opened for use.

The rehabilitation works done on the bridge are part of the periodic maintenance, which was also carried out in 2008, 2012 and 2018. ....

Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the state will get 20,000 slots out of 774,000 jobs for Nigerians across all the Local Government Areas in the country being offered by the Federal Government through its Extended Special Public Works (SPW) Programme.
The programme is being implemented through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in collaboration with state governments and other relevant stakeholders.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this at the official flag-off of the programme in the Federal Government, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa-Ikeja, even as he called for increased allocation to the state, citing increasing population, attraction of Lagos, among others to all Nigerians with every village or town having it ....

FG inaugurates 20,000 extended public works in Lagos

Lagos, Jan. 26, 2021 The Federal Government on Tuesday inaugurated 20,000 Extended Special Public Works (SPW) Programme in Lagos state.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, made this known in Lagos during the inauguration of the Extended SPW Programme of the 774,000 jobs in the country.
Fashola, represented by the ministry’s Head of Works in Lagos State, Mr Kayode Popoola, said the programme aimed at providing employment opportunities for unemployed Nigerians
The minister congratulated the 20,000 Lagosians that had been selected to participate in the programme.
He urged the participants to be at their very best and be good ambassadors of the state. ....
