Gov. David Ige has extended the emergency disaster relief period for damage caused by heavy rains and flooding across the state in March.
In Maui County, floodwaters rushed through homes, overflowed the Kaupakalua Dam and washed out bridges and roads.
The second proclamation, signed by Ige on Thursday, extends the emergency period through July 6 and gives the governor the authority to spend state funds as appropriated to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents and visitors in the state, according to a news release from the Governor’s Office.
The declaration also supports the state’s efforts to provide quick and efficient relief of suffering, damage and losses caused by the flooding and other effects of the heavy rains, the news release said.
