A Chinese company inked a contract with Tanzania Geothermal Development Company on Monday to provide facilities and services to help Tanzania develop its geothermal resources in Dar es Salaam, the country's biggest city.

Govt: Geothermal power capacity nears 5,000MW’
ENERGY Minister Dr Medard Kalemani has said Tanzania has the capacity to produce 5,000MW geo thermal electricity from various sources.
Dr Kalemani gave the remarks at the weekend when visiting Majimoto area in Mbozi district, Songwe Region.
He said the country has resources, the capability and sources for geo thermal power production, in which case the ministry has begun observing them closely for project identification.
He said in Mbeya and Songwe regions alone there are several hot water sources that could produce up to 165MW of geothermal power. Other sources include Lake Natron in Arusha Region, Luhoi (Coast Region) as well as Kiejo Mbaka and Ngozi (Mbeya Region).
